You are choosing to change and impact the lives that Hearts that Hear reaches. Hearts that Hear is always working to provide education, advocacy, and community outreach to disabled children, individuals, and groups in Kenya. At any given time, there are a number of projects occurring simultaneously. Click on the links to see more details on a few of our current projects.
While assisting students who attend B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf, we recognized that meeting their needs extends far beyond the classroom. Ensuring safety, stability, and access to basic necessities is essential. In October 2024, thanks to a generous grant, we were able to purchase land to support this vision. We successfully completed well drilling in late December 2025, providing a reliable source of clean water for the community. With this critical milestone achieved, we are now focused on the next phase of development: constructing two student dormitories, a staff housing area, a kitchen, and two bathhouses. These facilities will create a safe, healthy, and supportive living environment, particularly for students who need a secure place to stay during long school holidays. Together, these projects move us closer to building a space where students are not only educated, but truly cared for and protected.
TOTAL COST $25,000
Through grant funding, the B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf has built two new classrooms. One of these classrooms will be a dual-purpose science laboratory and classroom for grades 6 through 9. Our students have never had the opportunity of a science lab. Students and staff currently need to walk 1.5 miles to another school to complete these lessons. Please help us complete this project.
TOTAL COST: $4,000
We are working to expand technology education for students at the B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf in Karungu, Kenya, by installing solar power and providing consistent internet access. Reliable electricity and connectivity will enable students to engage in digital learning, access sign language resources, and participate in STEM programs tailored to their needs. This initiative will help bridge the educational gap, empowering students with disabilities with the skills and opportunities to pursue future careers in science, technology, and beyond.
TOTAL COST: $5,500
The B.L. Tezza School for the Deaf serves over 75 children in their rural community. However, not all children we meet can come to our school due to various needs. Through our scholarship program, we give children the opportunity to go to school in a setting that is appropriate for them. This helps children learn both academic and vocational skills to better their future.
